As a recovering people-pleaser, I can admit that I am not great with setting boundaries. Recently, someone showed up to my home unannounced at a moment when I didn’t want company. Instead of telling them it wasn’t a good time I stood, motionless, in a dark corner of my kitchen until they left. They waited at the door for five very long minutes. I never moved an inch.

In the post-pandemic world, though, boundaries have become more than just a buzzword we toss around when we talk about our exes or in-laws— they’re a matter of survival. As we embrace a more remote/hybrid work culture, the line between “work time” and “home time” becomes more blurred. When we work with clients, we often default to taking a meeting or working unpaid extra hours on a project when it’s counterproductive to our own wellbeing and success. We end up doing more than we could or should instead of doing what’s in our best interest.

The Alphas, The Boomers & Me

Last weekend while standing ever-so-patiently in Sephora waiting for my daughter to remember I existed, I had a lot of time to think about how I am a member of a different kind of sandwich generation: Gen X, stuck smack-dab in the middle of our skincare-obsessed Gen Alpha children and Boomer parents, the pioneers of beauty longevity.
